Jason Huntley - Bio

I was born in Colorado in 1970, lived in Idaho for a time, and eventually moved to the Seattle area with my family at the age of seven. Although, as an adult, I moved away to Austin Texas for seven years, I refer to Seattle as “my hometown”. In the late eighties I studied at the Art Institute of Seattle and had the good fortune to have Bill Cumming as an instructor. While never focused on a degree, I was an excellent student with a 3.98 cumulative grade point average. As curiosity led me, I wet my academic appetite at community colleges to study subjects like art, archaeology, and psychology. Aside from some of the great teachers I have had, I would include as influences on my work, artists like Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Salvador Dali, and David Hockney. Taking author Betty Edwards rather seriously, I taught myself to draw left handed- my less dominant hand. For several years now, every drawing I create is drawn with my left hand, and I’m currently working on a series of ‘transdextrous’ acrylic paintings.
