Felix Livni - Bio and Statement
Bio
Felix was born in 1973 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He moved to Sacramento California in 1977. At 19, with his whole life in a backpack, he declared himself a poet and bought a one way ticket to Seattle. In 1998, Felix graduated cum laude with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Washington. He began painting in 2001 and has been showing his art ever since. Felix uses acrylic paints, photographic or serigraphic techniques, bees wax, and synthetic resins two create simple, two-tone images.
Statement
“I want my images to be devoid of meaning. I am trying to skim off the surface and then simplify, and simplify. There is a point where an image is no longer beautiful. If you slowly reduce a beautiful image, first you remove its meaning, but its beauty can remain. (…) I am interested in how we manipulate the natural world, in our, us humans’, evolving sense of what is beautiful. I want to simultaneously evoke the natural and the industrial.”
